Michael was appointed as Chief Executive Officer on 13 May 2011. Prior to joining Evraz Highveld, Michael was Senior Vice-President, Manufacturing and Supply Chain of Evraz Inc. North America. Prior to joining Evraz, Michael was Vice-President of Merchant Operations at Gerdau Ameristeel, a US subsidiary of major multinational steel producer Gerdau. Prior to joining Gerdau Ameristeel, Michael spent eight years with Alcoa, Inc. His last role with Alcoa was as the senior commercial leader for Alcoa’s Flat-rolled products business in China. Other assignments with Alcoa included Director of Sales and Marketing for Alcoa’s North American automotive sheet business and Operations Director of Alcoa’s Pimalco Aluminium Extrusion facility. Prior to joining Alcoa, Michael worked for Kimberly-Clark Corporation in a variety of manufacturing management positions. Before beginning his business career, Michael was an Officer in the United States Army where he served in the Third Armored Cavalry Regiment during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
